2010/8/10 Austria Day 6 – Beethovengang

Unlike Mozart, Beethoven was born in Germany.  Owing to his hearing problem, he moved to a small Austrian town of Heiligenstadt, just outside Vienna, on the advice of his doctor.  The everyday walk along a river inspired him in writing Symphony No. 6.  (Pastoral Symphony).  The path was now named as Beethovengang.

At the end of Beethovengang, we saw Beethovenpark.  Although the children were all quite tired after a long walk in the ‘forest’, they were full of energy at the park.

We spent some time at the park.  Afterwards, we went on our Beethoven hunt.

We finally arrived at the Heiligenstadter Testament Haus.  When Beethoven realized his hearing problem was getting irreversible, he wrote the testament to his brother at that house.  Since then, he was totally deaf for around 10 years.

Ron and Trevor were quite impatient to stay quiet.  The lady, who was the only staff at the museum, kept them at her desk.  She drew their ‘portraits’.
